Totally agree, I spent almost all the time focused on the build up and should have spent a few extra days on the payoff at the end, next time the payoff will be equally as well done as the set up.
I played this game as part of a 3 scary games moon edition video and I have to say this one was pretty great as short as it was. This game starts at 54:00 in the video.
Starting out I chose this game initially because it has moon in the name. Going into indie games I like to be as blind as possible so I don't know what to expect. I started this game knowing that it had something to do with Apollo, but that was about it.
I also really enjoyed the sort of "forced" perspective by having the helmet as a static border around the game as we ran around the moon. It limited the FOV but it also really added to the suspense in my opinion.
~SPOILER~
I really enjoyed when the alien cut off communication with Houston and was using their voice to try and get us to stay where we are. Like that was super uncomfortable and such a great way to help build the unease. Plus the music, really added to the terror of being chased there at the end watching the counter go down as the alien got closer.
~SPOILER OVER~
Overall, I highly recommend this game as it really built the terror in a short amount of time.
I think you could do just about any environment and this would work.
If you've seen the movie "The Thing" doing something along a similar vein where you're isolated in an arctic environment with no way to contact society would be super cool. Or if you've seen the game "Soma" doing something where you're stuck along the bottom of the ocean would be terrifying as we don't know what's down there, so you can expand upon the terror of the unknown.
Overall, you have a great style and I look forward to seeing what you do in the future.
Awesome man I hope you stick around. Wanna know whats scarier than any game on this site though? My stats final exam about to take it right now. I'm locked in wish me luck!
Fantastic short experience, there's something very unsettling about being that out in the open, exposed and vulnerable to any entities watching from afar. Really cool atmosphere, the only thing that is truly missing are subtitles. It's very easy to miss out on information being said, specially when doing commentary for a video hahaha. Other than the need for subtitles, this was really a great game, good job dev(s)!
thank you for the feedback! A lot of people have given feeback about subtitles that was definatly an oversight. I’ll be including those in games from now on 👍
I wasn’t expecting a lot from this game, but man this was actually really well done. The build up and subtle images you could see on the hills really made me paranoid. A lot of fun!
Game started out promising, nice dialogue and atmosphere, but then it just became jumpscare with a spoopy face. Come on now. Even the voice acting was top notch
I really enjoyed the experience! I just wish that it was a bit longer though! It's a bit short, but packs such an unnerving punch! Need more like it, maybe a prequel or a sequel with the guy who found the footage? Awesome job!
The song is AI generated (I cant compose good music), then edited with Audacity and put through some filters. I forgot what site I used to make the song, but it was free to use.
Игрушка прикольная, но ожидал чего-то более масштабного. В том плане что например из-за горизонта вылетит огромная голова как на картинке, а так вполне годно. Автору успехов!
Okay... when a Space related horror games come out they're all very good and well made and this game hits the mark perfectly, the atmosphere, the dialogue, the tension? All very good, you got me very good at the end may I add. Keep it up Matthew! 💚🤌
Only complaint i have is that it isn't long enough. Also if you don't mind me asking what is the name of the song being played at the beginning/end of the game?
Atmosphere is pretty nice, especially how it makes you second guess things you see and do double takes. The capped jump is a bit jarring tho, could use some smoothing out. Also I kinda miss the quindar beep sound at the end of the transmissions, think that could go a bit of extra way in terms of that lunar mission atmosphere. Also no sun or earth in the sky but that's just me nitpicking lol. Keep on going my man, Id love to see more of this.
According to NASA, the cameras that took pictures were set to dim light, and thus there are supposedly no stars visible in any of the pictures, so I was pleasantly surprised to see sky full of them. It's also smart to have all those conversations going on while traversing the rocky terrain. Of course I wasn't going to stay put with something hurling toward me at warp speed. Hell no! Regardless, I got nailed at the end. Didn't like the extreme loud noise at the end, so I erased it.
I didn’t run into any bugs, hiccups or other snags, so kudos to all involved and thank you for making this interesting game! I had tons of fun playing it.
Really enjoyed this i was really gutted with the length though and hope that you revisit this in the future, as i think there was so many unanswered questions like the dialog at the beginning talking about after watching the footage it saw the person, there was no pay off for that but i just really loved the concept and thought it was super interesting and would love to see a fully fledged game of this!
Too much dialogue compared to scares/gameplay, but short so why not give it a try.
Ok so for a bit more detail. This game drew me in from the art and the space helmet filter, this leaves to some good atmosphere. This game even had a good starting idea that draws people in and can lend to a wide range of outcomes. This game makes you feel like you are on the moon from the low grav jumps to the space debris floating up from the ground ( I'm assuming this is what it is like on the moon XD). Even to the sprint back to the ship started very intense.
Now the biggest down side is the bloated expo dump at the start of the game. It is bad practice to dump a bunch a dialogue at the beginning of a game (without gameplay or anything to really keep the gamers attention) because as the gamer you aren't really invested in the game at first so the dialogue can come across as boring or drawn out if not paced well. Well this game is just walking, one interact, then more walking, so I see why you added this "story" to add some intrigue but I personally thinks it works against your game.
As I said in the starting sentence this game is pretty short so it doesn't hurt to give it a play and maybe you will get scared to by the jumpscare lol XD.
I play indie horror games and I actually try to give some actual feedback to hopefully help improve the dev aspect in some way (even if it's super tiny ;) ) I would appreciate it if you would check out my video. Sorry for the shill but closed mouths don't get fed. Thanks for the opportunity to play your game.
Thanks so much for this feedback, detailed feedback comments like the most valuable comments I get. Totally agree with your points. Looking back I think that this would work better if you start in an archive room and put the vhs tape (the "recording" of the game) in a vhs player, then a trimmed down version of the text can play on a physical TV in that room, before shoving your camera into the TV when the actual game starts for the first person perspective. Or something like that. I would really appreciate if you stay around for the next project where I will solve the problems you've seen here, I LOVE this feedback!! Thank you!
that actually sounds pretty cool ngl. Also I have to say it I saw another commenter mention doing some voice work for you for free. I would be really interested as well, it's kind of a small dream of mine to do voices one day. Good luck on your next projects and lmk if there are any in particular you would like me to take a look at
all the other ones are pretty old (The Space Sim is a cute little game tho if it’s something that’s right up ur alley like it is mine) this is my first time back in a while. Started college and a job so it got pretty hectic Link me a social media I can contact you on though because there are a bunch characters I need for my next project and I wanna stay away from AI. Thanks so much for playing man!!
I don't really have socials smh. A twitter maybe but I don't use it. Maybe you can leave a comment on something when you're ready if you remeber little ol me. Other then that I could add you on discord.
atmosphere was very good, and i was second gessing myself when i saw things in the distance. This was a good spook and it goes to show that a familiar spooky png can be scary :)
The atmosphere is amazing! I really enjoy alien themes games so this one hit the spot. Many thanks for making me panic haha! Could you please tell me the name of the song used in your game? It sounds so nostalgic! :)
The song, as well the dialog was generated with AI, this game was partially a test to see if I could start using AI to generate audio for these games, it seems most people can't tell. If you want Ill send you the song file.
Oh!! Wow, that's a cool idea to test. I would have never guessed it's written by AI. Yes, please, could you send me the song file? Much appreciated! :)

the atmosphere is just awesome, not just the feeling of dread but the loneliness, fantastic!
ALGO DIFERENTE
I really liked the jumpscare in the end! Keep up the good work!
Nice work! the sense of dread was palpable halfway through the game onward!
Live your dreams by being in an astronaut in a completely isolated climate away the the average troubles of life.
Very interesting game! Really wish the scare was executed a little bit better, and had a few more mechanics. Overall a good experience though!

Out of curiosity are there any other environments that you really enjoy in these style of horror games?
Btw thank you so much for playing!!
Yeah no problem. I really enjoyed it and your game popped up when I was looking for a third moon inspired horror game.
I think you could do just about any environment and this would work.

Everything from the scenery to the ambience was dope. Great job on the game man!

This game is really impressive. Deserve more content.
short but i liked it!
whats the name of the song you used in this game?

Ill upload it on youtube and send you a link when I get home from work.

For fk sake, I love this game!
what a king
Short but pretty damn solid! Loved this whole thing throughout, especially that ending chase segment. Panic definitely ensued! Made a video on it.
진짜 달에 온 것 같아요^^ 게임 재밌게 했습니다.

Thanks so much for playing I appreciate you! I am glad you enjoyed the game!
Nice short experience! The mood and how it evolves toward the end is the best about it.
Only complaint i have is that it isn't long enough. Also if you don't mind me asking what is the name of the song being played at the beginning/end of the game?
Nice Game!!!
cool good game

Such a simple game, but packed a lot of tension into it's short playtime.
Awesome, thanks for playing!! That’s exactly what I was going for! Thank you for your video👍
